This story about the financial crisis on the Yahoo! home page (by Business Week) has a picture of downtown Des Moines. That big building with the pointy top is 801 Grand, the HQ of Principal; the Absolut Vodka-shaped building is EMC Insurance; that big copper building is the Ruan Building. Anyway. My point is, this is the heart of downtown Des Moines. And the label on the picture" "West Des Moines, Iowa."
Perhaps this isn't a big deal to you, but that's pretty much like taking a picture of Chicago and telling people it's Naperville. Or taking a picture of, like, the Chrysler Building and labeling it "Hoboken, N.J." It's a completely different town. It has its own city council and it's even in a different county. If you really wanted a picture, there's all kinds of crap going up in WDM right now. The Wells Fargo Home Mortgage HQ is out there (AKA "The Death Star" because it's so big and dark and imposing - great photo op), the new Aviva HQ is under construction... there's tons of financial and real estate buildings out there in all stages of construction.
At least they didn't take a picture of a cornfield and label it "Des Moines". That's what news outlets usually do. Especially during caucus time.
